HILLSBOROUGH — Three people were killed in a Somerset County fire on Monday night.

Four apartments were damaged in a two-alarm fire that broke out around 10 p.m. on Farm Road in Hillsborough according to Hillsborough Township spokeswoman Pam Borek

Somerset County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Capt. Jack Bennett said three people died in the fire but would not disclose their identities pending notification of next of kin.

ABC7 Eyewitness News reported the fire started in a second floor bedroom. Pictures of the fire scene show heavy damage to the roof of the building.

The fire trapped people in the bedroom, according to CBS New York.

Bennett did not know what caused the fire and said the Prosecutor's Office investigation is ongoing.
