Did you ever think you'd see the day when marijuana would be legal in New Jersey? You'll probably see it as early as next year. So now that we're about to cross that hurdle, how do you feel about legalized prostitution? I say "why not?"

If a person has the right to do what they want with their own body, why shouldn't the be allowed to sell it for sex? In fact, you would no longer call them prostitutes but "sex workers." One such sex worker, Janet Duran, would like it decriminalized and I totally agree.

The advantages to legalized prostitution in New Jersey would first and foremost be the taxes. Wouldn't it be great instead of putting these people in jail, which costs us money, to instead make money from taxing the profession? Of course there would be health codes that would have to be maintained like constant STD testing. Heck, you could even make condoms mandatory.

In Nevada where prostitution is legal, they take in about 75 million per year, while illegal prostitution in the Las Vegas area grosses about 5 billion. Imagine what it could do for Atlantic City.

Legalizing prostitution would also take away the stigma that comes with it. As more and more jobs disappear in New Jersey this opens a very lucrative career path. You may not choose it but that doesn't mean others who would like to shouldn't.

There always was and will always be a need for prostitution. That's why they call it the world's oldest profession. I say it's about time New Jersey starts making money off of it.
