A great-grandmother and her five-year-old great-granddaughter are missing after leaving New Jersey for a 9-hour trip to North Carolina on Christmas Eve.

Barbara Briley, 71, and La'Myra Briley, 5, left the Garden State on Saturday to travel to Morven, North Carolina for a planned holiday visit with family, the Township of Hamilton Police Department said.

The two were last seen at an Exxon gas station in Ruther Glen, Virginia and appeared to be in good health at the time, police said. A missing persons report was filed Sunday.

On Monday, NJ Advance Media reported Briley's daughter, 47-year-old Tonya Floyd, was heading to the Virginia gas station to review the security footage.

Law enforcement officials were trying to locate Barbara Briley's phone using her daughter's cellphone provider, but calls were going straight to voicemail, according to the report.

A clerk at the gas station, Joanna Strange, told WTVR that she spoke with Barbara Briley, who needed help using the map on her phone. She said Barbara Briley was in the store for half an hour while the child stayed in the car.

Barbara Briley was driving a 2014 silver Toyota RAV 4 with a New Jersey license plate of C8OELS.

The New Jersey State Police, Virginia State Police and Morven North Carolina Police Department have been working alongside the Township of Hamilton Police Department to locate the pair.
