Police ID victims in apparent murder-suicide in Bergenfield
Authorities in Bergen County have identified the victims of an apparent murder-suicide that was discovered by an 11-year-old boy Saturday in Bergenfield.
According to a tweet posted by the Bergen County prosecutor's Office Sunday, the victims have been identified as Annette Torres, 37 and Mark Morris, 41.
On Saturday, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said the bodies were discovered by the couple's young son inside their West Clinton Street home, just across the street from Bergenfield High School, NJ Advance Media reported. Police were called when the child discovered that the man and woman weren't breathing. Authorities believe the deaths were a murder-suicide.
According to the NJ Advance Media article, when police arrived at the home, Torres was located in an upstairs bedroom, while Morris was in a basement utility room and appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other people were in the home at the time.
On Sunday, the Prosecutor's Office said the investigation is ongoing and no additional information would be released.
To help the family with expenses, Torres' sister has started a GoFundMe page.
"Yesterday all of our lives were shaken with the news of her death. It is tragic and unreal the situation we are going through and we appreciate all the support from our family and close friends in this painful time," a message on the page states.
