Phillies Fall to Reds in Suspended Game
Jay Bruce singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of ninth inning on Wednesday, sending the Cincinnati Reds to a strange 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in a game suspended overnight because of rain.
The game resumed in the bottom of the ninth with a few hundred people in the stands. Bruce's single off Phillippe Aumont (1-2) came only 9 minutes and 19 pitches after it restarted.
The game was suspended after heavy rain moved in as Aumont warmed up to face Zack Cozart. Eighteen hours later, Cozart finally got his chance and singled.
Joey Votto walked and center fielder Ben Revere dropped Brandon Phillips' fly ball for an error that loaded the bases. Bruce singled on the first pitch.
Aroldis Chapman (2-0) pitched the top of the ninth before the rain came.
