ROCKAWAY — A early morning crash on Interstate 80 involving four vehicles caused miles of backups during the Tuesday commute.

Three people were hospitalized after a 3:15 a.m. crash on the westbound lanes near Exit 35 for Mt. Hope Road. The crash involved an overturned tractor trailer, according to State Police spokesman Trooper Gene Hong.

Only one lane was open for the clean-up and investigation for several hours, creating a multi-mile delay. Rubbernecking caused a slow ride on the eastbound side. Routes 10 and 46 picked up extra traffic throughout the morning commute.

All lanes were reopened by 10:30 a.m and the the westbound off ramp at Exit 35 remained was cleared early in the afternoon.

Hong did not disclose the identity of anyone involved in the crash. The circumstances of the incident remained under investigation.
