A Haddon police officer had a harrowing experience Oct. 29 when a traffic stop turned violent.

He initially pulled over Edmond Brown Jr., 38, of Camden for having a handicap placard not taken down while driving.

In the video obtained by Philly.com, the officer is seen first questioning Brown then asking him to turn off his engine. At that point, instead of complying, Brown puts the vehicle into gear and lurches away from the traffic stop with the officer hanging onto the side of the door. Brown crashes the truck into a parked car and the officer immediately begins screaming for him to exit the vehicle.

Things turn even uglier when Brown won't listen to lawful commands and struggles with the officer. He ends up taking a bullet to the leg.

You can barely tell it happens. The gunfire can only be faintly heard at about 55 seconds into the video.

Brown survived the shooting and is charged with resisting arrest and eluding, assault by auto, driving in an aggressive manner, violating probation, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon by certain persons not to have weapons. There was a fully loaded .357 Magnum handgun found in his vehicle.

With all that police offers are going through these days, I challenge anyone to watch this video and then tell me officers don't have one of the most difficult jobs in the world. I continue to be amazed there's anyone left who still signs up for the force. But thank God they do.
