JERSEY CITY — With Liberty State Park closed due to the government shut down city officials decided to move this year's Freedom & Fireworks Festival to a location under their control.

Mayor Steven Fulop said the event will be held on Tuesday July 4 as scheduled, but will be at Exchange Place instead.

"I'm not willing to risk waiting around for the state government to act," Fulop said.

The festivities are scheduled to start at noon, and Fulop said the city is expecting a crowd of more than $150,000 to attend this year's event which will feature a performance by Kool & the Gang. The popular band is expected to take the stage at 8 p.m. during the free event with fireworks set to be launched at 9:25.
