WEST WINDSOR — An Old Bridge man who struck a tractor trailer on Route 1 early Saturday was seriously injured and also faces drug and alcohol charges.

John Gulapa drove his black 1995 Mitsubishi into the truck on the southbound side near Harrison Street in West Windsor around 5:30 a.m. Rescuers had to extricate him from the wreck, according to police.

The entire front of the vehicle was smashed and appeared to have gone underneath the truck.

Gulapa was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton for treatment of a fractured skull, broken nose and air in his skull.

He was also charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic summonses.

A 20-year-old woman from New Brunswick riding with Gulapa and a 48-year-old man from North Carolina driving the truck were not injured, according to police, who did not disclose their identities.

West Windsor Police asked anyone who witnesses the crash to call them at 609-799-1222.
