New Jersey vineyards have popped up here in the Great Garden State, faster than your last tin of Jiffy Pop. Along with the number of vineyards growing so rapidly over the past ten years, the quality of New Jersey wines have made a strong statement of taste and quality within the vintner circle.

Believe it or not central Jersey has great soil quality and the average temperature in central New Jersey is within one degree of France’s Bordeaux region, considered to be the best in the world. These are major factors in growing the grapes and producing high quality wine.

Rather than struggling to compete with California’s bold Cabernets and Merlots which thrive in the Napa and Alexander Valley because of their temperature and soil quality, most Jersey vineyards have been producing the lighter Bordeaux along with Italy’s Sangiovese based wines.

The results are impressive. Selected New Jersey wines won a taste competition in a recent Paris wine tasting competition that paired similar Bordeaux type wines. Of course you have to know how to turn those award winning grapes into a great bottle of wine. There are vineyards here in New Jersey that have been in business for over 70 years. If you haven’t tried a good New Jersey wine recently give them a try.

You can join me this Sunday at Six Flags Grape Adventure in Jackson as over 15 of New Jersey vineyards will be there sampling and selling their product, along with Food Trucks, crafters and more. Grape Adventure runs 1130a-5p both Saturday and Sunday and I’ll be broadcasting my show Sunday 10a-3pm from the park. Enjoy New Jersey wines and Cheers!
