Jersey City police say the 16-year-old boy was shot around 11:40 p.m. Sunday on Lexington Avenue.

The Jersey Journal reports that witnesses saw a beige vehicle pass by and someone inside reached out a rear window and fired a handgun three times. One of the bullets went through the boy's left shoulder and exited his body, but further details on his injuries were not disclosed.

The boy's name was not released.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and a possible motive for the shooting has not been disclosed.
