A Gloucester county has been indicted for allegedly trying to kill his fiance's 2-year-old boy nearly a year ago.

One day after Christmas last year, the Washington Township boy was taken to a hospital with failing kidneys, severe bruising and internal bleeding. Ciovanni Crucitti was arrested days later and charged in addition with having an image child pornography on his cell phone.

Authorities have not clarified if the child pornography charge is directly related to the alleged attack on the boy.

The week after the boy was hospitalized, his mother, 21-year-old Alyssa Barilaro of Washington Township, was charged with child endangerment for allegedly failing to seek immediate medical care for him.

A grand jury handed up the indictment against Crucitti Wednesday on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of child pornography. Barilaro was indicted on the child endangering charge.

Crucitti has been held in default of bail since his arrest on Dec. 24, 2007.

Alyssa Barilaro was arrested Wednesday at her Williamstown workplace following her indictment, the prosecutor's office said. Bail was set at $30,000 and she was turned over to the Gloucester County Sheriff's Department for transportation to jail.

According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's office, the boy continues to need medial monitoring and is in the custody of relatives.
