Girl came to NJ teacher for extra credit, and he molested her, cops say
A Notre Dame High School teacher is facing sex crime charges after allegedly kissing and fondling a student who came to him seeking extra credit, police say.
Edmund J. Harman, 26, has been arrested and charged with criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child.
Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said Harman, 26,met with a student who went in early to the Lawrence Township Catholic school to work on an extra credit assignment. During that meeting, Harmon kissed the back of the student's neck, massaged her back and legs and fondled her breasts, Onofri said.
The teacher also asked the student to send him naked pictures of herself, Onofri said.
Harman was arrested at his Franklin Township home on Monday afternoon following an investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor's Special Victims Unit and the Lawrence Township Police Department, the prosecutor's office said. Harmon is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Lawrence Township Police at 609-896-1111.
In an email, Notre Dame spokeswoman Brenda Riley said Harman was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. "We are deeply concerned about allegations that have been made against a Notre Dame High School teacher this week. We are fully cooperating with the Lawrence Township Police Department and with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office with regard to the investigation."
