FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — With sirens blaring and lights flashing, the Freehold Township All-Star Little League team got a fire and police escort as they headed to the regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut, their first stop of their journey toward the Little League World Series on Saturday morning.

Christina Resenhoeft-Goodspeed, a parent of a player, posted video of the escort on her Facebook page and called it an "amazing experience" watching the escort leave Michael J. Tighe Park.

"We're so proud of all of you!! A special shout out to the moms, dads and coaches for their dedication also," she wrote.

Manager Jeff Gorman said his team has a full schedule once the three-hour bus ride is done. The New Jersey state champions will unpack their gear in the dorms at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center and have individual and team pictures taken, followed by a tour and a family barbecue.

They'll march onto the field with the five other teams in the tournament for the opening ceremonies before taking on New York state champion Maine-Endwell at 4 p.m.. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 3.

Gorman says his team is excited to be representing not only Freehold but the entire state in the Little League tournament.

A Go Fund Me page has been created to raise funds for the team’s trip to Connecticut.
