Gavin Swiatek, a biochemistry instructor at Rutgers' Cook Campus in New Brunswick, had pleaded guilty last December to distributing child porn. Besides the prison term that was imposed Monday, the 50-year-old Hillsborough resident is also permanently barred from holding public employment in New Jersey.

State Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa says authorities learned Swiatek was using peer-to-peer file sharing to exchange the videos. Swiatek was arrested at his home in January 2012 when state police executed a search warrant at the residence.
