A fatal pedestrian accident closed Route 18 in Marlboro for most of Monday morning's commute.

Marlboro Police Captain Fred Reck told  New Jersey 101.5 a male pedestrian was struck on the southbound side by a tractor trailer around 4 a.m. under the Newman Springs Road (Route 520) overpass. Neither the driver nor pedestrian were identified by Reck.

The closure created multi-mile delays as traffic was detoured off the southbound side and rubberneckers slowed northbound drivers. As of 10:20 a.m., the road had reopened.

No charges have been filed yet by police. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Marlboro Police are among the agencies involved in the investigation.
