Jordan Turner pleaded guilty Monday to murder charges stemming from the February 2011 slaying at a home in Dumont where he rented a room. In return, Bergen County prosecutors will seek a 45-year prison term when he's sentenced Sept. 5.

Prosecutors say Turner reported the slaying to police a few hours after the shooting occurred and said he wanted to turn himself in. Authorities then went to the home and found the body of 22-year-old Heather Reyes.

During the court hearing Monday, Turner said he caught Reyes cheating on him. But prosecutors and the victim's relatives have said the couple had broken up before the killing.
