Clean Ocean Action, an environmental group, has done a beach sweep and found that 76% of the debris picked up was plastic. According to NBC Philadelphia, some of the stranger items discovered include a hospital bed, a grave marker, and a refrigerator.

I have no idea how you get a hospital bed or refrigerator to the beach without anyone seeing you unless they washed in from the ocean, but that seems even more farfetched. The real method of deposit very well may have been Superstorm Sandy. The first big sweep of this year is April 26th. The single most commonly found item in 2012? Cigarette filters.
