There is nothing more shocking in television than when a major character on a television show is killed off when you didn’t see it coming. I remember being stunned when McLean Stevenson’s Henry Blake was killed off on 'MASH' in the last scene of his farewell show. It was the most surprising major television character death I, as a viewer, ever saw. Not even the actors who were given the scene on their last day of shooting knew it was going to happen.

Since then, such major characters as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero of 'The Sopranos', Gustavo Fring on 'Breaking Bad', and Lane Pryce of 'Mad Men' have all surprisingly bit the dust.

ScreenCrush published a list of 15 of the most memorable TV deaths.
