Washington Township man charged with robbing Hillsdale deli at gunpoint
Police charged a Bergen County man Sunday after he allegedly robbed a deli in Hillsdale with a handgun while wearing a Halloween mask.
Patrick McLoughlin, 21 of Washington Township, was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and robbery, according to a statement from the Hillsdale Police Department.
Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Wilkes Delicatessen on Hillsdale Avenue at 10:35 a.m. Sunday, the statement said.
A 61-year-old store clerk reported that a young man with red hair, wearing a Halloween mask, demanded money from the register while holding a black handgun, according to police. The clerk, who was not injured, gave the man about $100 in cash before he fled the store, police said.
Police broadcast the description of the suspect, who was located in the area. A search also turned up the handgun, mask and money, according to the statement.
A judge set bail at $25,000. McLoughlin was taken to Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
The Hillsdale Police Department thanked the Westwood, Washington Township and Emerson police Departments for assisting in the investigation.
