BEDMINSTER — A 61-year-old man from Hawaii is facing charges in Somerset County and Westchester, New York, accusing him of defacing the greens at four Trump golf courses.

The arrest of Clifford Tillotson was announced Friday by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, which said Tillotson sprayed some sort of chemical on nine greens of Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster sometime between the night of Sept. 11 and the following morning.

The club said the damage amounted to $10,000.

The golf club has been a favorite home away from the White House for President Donald Trump since he became president. As a result, it has drawn frequent weekend demonstrators — opposed to and in favor of Trump — to the wealthy, bucolic community.

In July, a man demonstrating outside the club accused a woman of biting him. A pump house on the property was also defaced with the words "TRUMP OUT."

Tillotson, who has not been extradited to New Jersey, is also charged in New York with defacing Trump golf courses in Ferry Point, Hudson Valley, and Westchester.

Bloomberg reported this month that the a chemical was used to etch writing onto the greens. Among the phrases: “President Pence has a bad ring to it,” “If Jesus came back tomorrow he wouldn’t be an evangelical,” and “Product of too much Propecia,” Bloomberg reported, citing photographs of the damage that their reporters had seen.

Somerset County's investigation involved sending a sample of the greens to a forensic lab, officials said..

Tillotson has been charged with third-degree criminal mischief.

New Jersey 101.5 did not know Friday whether he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Trump National also has a golf course in Colts Neck.
