PASSAIC — A man was killed Sunday evening when a lightning strike from the passing storm hit a tree, causing a limb to fall onto a tent in a city backyard.

Police said a total of six people were injured by the falling tree limb on Paulison Avenue. Five of the injuries were considered minor to moderate, with one person critically injured. All the injured people were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

The critical victim, who police identified as a 28-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries from the falling tree branch, according to the police.

According to the National Weather Service the storm caused damage across the state. Trees were knocked down damaging homes in Passaic and Bergen County and also caused problems on roadways as well.
