LAKEWOOD — A Toms River police officer is recovering from an off-duty crash with a truck on the Garden State Parkway.

Officer Brett Hansen, 28, was in his own car on Thursday around Exit 90 and sustained serious life threatening injuries, according to Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco.  Hansen was hospitalized and faces numerous expensive surgeries in his recovery.

Hansen joined the Toms River force in August 2015 as a member of the patrol division.
