Teen mother faces charges in infant’s death
PATERSON, N.J. (AP) -- A Paterson teenager is charged with delinquency for allegedly causing the death of her 2-month-old son.
Authorities say the mother's alleged actions would have resulted in charges of manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child if they were committed by an adult.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office says that at about 8 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2013, the mother realized the infant wasn't breathing and called 911. The infant was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The death was ruled a homicide.
Senior Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Freid says there were multiple signs of trauma and skeletal injury to the infant.
The mother's age isn't disclosed, but Freid says she's a teenager and is being held in a juvenile detention facility.
The case will be heard in family court.
