The fire has burned through nearly 24 sq. miles (15,250 acres) and is 60% contained as of Friday morning, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The wildfire is already the largest wildfire in New Jersey this year at 13.2 square miles (8,500 acres) burned but only 10% contained as of Wednesday morning.
Dennis Township school superintendent Susan S. Speirs in a letter to parents said a search for a man who fired at the owner of a dirt bike he allegedly stole was underway as students were being dropped off at Middle Township High School.
