Police are looking for a black Chevrolet Tahoe used in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 7-year-old girl on Monday as she walked to school.

Hudson County Deputy Chief Prosecutor Leo Hernandez told NJ Advance Media the girl and her mother were both crossing the street when they were hit by the a SUV, which sped up as it headed down 61st Street.

"You can run, but you can't hide," Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari said at a press conference Monday afternoon, according to the news organization, which reported that police are looking at surveillance video that showed the Tahoe after the accident.

The girl's mother was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The city of West New York will pay for the funeral and fly flags at half-staff in memory of the girl according to ABC 7, which identifies her as Sheyla Pichardo
