Robbinsville girls close in on World Series
The 11-and-12-year-old Robbinsville girls all-star softball team is closing in on its third Little League softball World Series in as many years.
The team stretched their undefeated playoff record to 20-0 in their run to the series in Portland, Oregon with an 11-1 win over Chico, California (West) on Monday night. They''ll play on Tuesday against Tallmadge, Ohio. The game will air live on ESPN 2. The winner will advance to the championship round.
Robbinsville shut out a team from Victoria, British Columbia in its first game and far-outscored a team from Victoria, British Columbia in the third game. A team from the Philippines failed to show up on time for its game and forfeited their game to Robbinsville which is scored as a 6-0 win.
Manager Mark Walsh tells the Trentonian he is happy with his team's play but the best play is yet to come. "I’ve always felt that we still haven’t played our best softball yet and I still feel like we can play even better. As crazy as that may sound, I believe we can still play better and we’ll see what happens in the remainder of the tournament.”
The Robbinsville Senior Center will host a viewing of Monday night's game according to the Little League Facebook page. Fundraising efforts for the team continue with a number of stores in the Foxmoor Shopping Plaza donating 20 percent of their sales between 5 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday night.
