Jersey City Police said in a report that Antonio Garcia, 36, was being transferred to intensive care in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center.

Police arrived about midnight at Garcia's South Street apartment and found his friend, Daniel Gomez, being treated for a superficial pit bull bite to his left leg.

Police said Gomez told them he was hanging out with Garcia when the pit bull got out of its cage and attacked him.

He asked police to retrieve a winter coat he left in the apartment.
Police went up to the apartment and heard dogs barking as well as a man moaning, the report said. Police entered and discovered Garcia, covered in blood.

The report also said officers were unable to interview Garcia about what happened because he was in critical condition, and intubated at the hospital.

Animal control removed the male dog as well as a second pit bull, which had been in a cage throughout the incident.
