A middle school in Parsippany went into a "soft lockdown" after an unresponsive students was found in a bathroom on Thursday.

Parsippany Police said the boy asked to use the bathroom during a gym class at Central Middle School just before 11 a.m. Several students a short time later told a gym teacher that something may be wrong with the boy in one of the bathroom stalls according to police.

Police said the a teacher went to check on the situation and immediately began to perform CPR on the student, while EMS crews were called.The school went into a "soft lockdown" as medical personnel attended to the boy and transported him via police escort to Morristown Medical Center according to a statement from Interim Superintendent LeRoy Seitz.

Seitz said the lockdown allowed medical personnel to have "free access" to the school. Counseling was provided for students and staff who were in need according to the superintendent.

The boy was reported to be in critical condition, according to police.
