Fishermen's Energy announced Monday that it filed legal papers Thursday with the state Supreme Court. The firm hopes to overturn a recent state appellate court ruling that rejected the plan.

The company wants to put five windmills about three miles off the coast.

But New Jersey energy regulators have rejected the plan, claiming a Chinese company that would own 70 percent of the project did not demonstrate financial integrity.

Wissemann has said the company would consider cutting ties with the Chinese firm and seeking a new partner if state regulators wanted them to.
