LINDEN — A fatal pedestrian strike led to a partial suspension of NJ Transit Northeast Corridor service on Monday morning.

Inbound service was suspended inbound between Metuchen and Woodbridge and between Woodbridge and Newark on the North Jersey Coast Line after train No. 3124, carrying 800, passengers struck a person the Linden station, according to spokesman Jim Smith. No passengers were injured in the incident.

Smith called the person a "trespasser" — a term the service uses to emphasize the person was not authorized to be on the tracks.

Service resumed on both lines at 8:45 a.m, but with 60-minute delays.

Smith said the incident was still under investigation and did not disclose the identity of the perso  or why the individual was on the track.

Rider Carl Schellenberger told New Jersey 101.5 an announcement was made on board his train after it parked in Woodbridge.

NJ Transit was cross honoring with its buses and with PATH.
