NEWARK — NJ Transit's Atlantic City Line will return to a normal schedule on Thursday.

The line had been suspended on Friday between Cherry Hill and Philadelphia after a garbage container truck hit the River Road rail overpass in Pennsauken on Friday afternoon. The hit caused a great deal of structural damage and rail damage NJ Transit estimated would take two weeks to repair.

The repairs were completed over a week ahead of schedule, which included the realignment of the bridge, repairing the girder on the tracks, and realigning the NJ Transit and Conrail tracks.

“I want to thank all of our customers for their patience as well as our employees and the outside contractors who worked hard to safely complete this project well ahead of schedule,” NJ Transit Executive Director Steven H. Santoro said in a statement.

Cross honoring on NJT buses, the RiverLINE light rail and PATCO will continue on Thursday.
