Message To New Jersey Residents Who Refuse To Say Thank You

It would take all day to list all the pet peeves we have in New Jersey, but let's focus on two simple words today - thank you.

New Jersey Is Not The Most Polite State In America

New Jersey has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of the nation for politeness. A recent Preply article reports the Garden State at #39 for being polite, so I don't expect a master course on manners when I move about my day in the Garden State.

But I do think we can all muster up the time and energy to execute the bare minimum in decorum and etiquette. Let's take, for example, saying the two simplest words in the language, thank you.

Let's assume you have taken the time to hold a door open or left enough room for a car to get in front of you.

Missed Opportunities To Say Thank You In New Jersey

These are small, but rare gestures in New Jersey, so when you perform them, aren't you expecting, and don't you deserve some symbol of appreciation?

I can't tell you how many times these small gestures and many others go unappreciated in the Garden State, and let's be honest. It's infuriating.

It's New Jersey. We're all busy. We're all in a hurry. So, when someone does something nice for you, try to make the exhausting effort to smile, nod, or utter the eternally long phrase "thank you".

You Can Make New Jersey A Nicer Place

I'm not asking for a medal, an award, or a standing ovation, and neither are you. But can we at least give a "39th politeness ranking worthy" effort to show some small measure of appreciation?
