Authorities say a 24-year-old Paulsboro dad was fatally shot in front of his home on Father's Day.

John Gardner sustained multiple gunshot wounds, police say, and his assailant has not yet been captured. According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, the incident took place just after 11 p.m. on the 1300 block of Pine Street.

According to NJ Advance Media, witnesses informed authorities that a vehicle pulled up in front of Garnder's Pine Street home and a verbal dispute preceded the shooting. The alleged gunman then fled. The article states that Gardner had two young sons and was a former basketball player at Paulsboro High School.

Gardner was shot several times and was transported to Inspira Hospital in Woodbury where he was pronounced dead around midnight, police said.

Relatives and friends of the Paulsboro man began posting on social media Monday morning as news of his death began to spread.

Authorities say there is no suspect in custody and the shooting remains under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office and Paulsboro Police Department.

The Prosecutor's Office is asking anyone with information to contact GCPO Detective Warren Rivell 856-384-5625 or Detective Mike Bielski of the Paulsboro Police Department at 856-423-6222.
