There are more than 140 breweries located throughout the Garden State, according to the group New Jersey Craft Beer.

That is a lot of options. And if you're deciding to spend a night out by visiting a craft-beer maker, you may be interested in learning which spots other drinkers seem to enjoy the most, so you can get the most bang for your buck.

We headed to the the beer-review site BeerAdvocate to find which New Jersey craft beers received the most positive reviews. Some brews received more than 1,000 assessments from customers, and many had hundreds.

Each review results in a score for the beer. BeerAdvocate averaged those scores to keep an ongoing list of the 100 most positively reviewed brews in the state.

Below is a list of New Jersey breweries that take up at least two spots on the top 100, as of June 2023.

The No. 1 ranked beer has 38 different brews on the list.

Weird things NJ taxes - and some they don't

In general, New Jersey assesses a 6.625% Sales Tax on sales of most tangible personal property, specified digital products, and certain services unless specifically exempt under New Jersey law.
However, the way the sales tax is applied in New Jersey sometimes just doesn't make sense.
New Jersey puts out an itemized list for retailers that spells out what is, and what is not, taxed. 
Perhaps because this is New Jersey, there are some bizarre and seemingly contradictory listings.
