New Graceland entertainment complex under construction

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Graceland officials say a new entertainment complex being built across the street from Elvis Presley's former home-turned-museum will include a large soundstage for live performances and movie screenings, and an exhibit honoring influential music producer Sam Phillips.

Joel Weinshanker and Jack Soden, two executives of Elvis Presley Enterprises, unveiled a large artist's rendering of the planned 200,000 square-foot entertainment center on Monday. The new complex will replace the aging visitor center that sits across the street from the Graceland home, where the rock and roll singer and film star lived for 20 years until he died on Aug. 16, 1977.

The complex is set to open next spring, and construction has begun. It is part of a $137 million expansion that includes the construction of a $92 million hotel.
