Motorcyclist killed trying to move broken-down bike across Turnpike
HAMILTON (Mercer) — A man was killed on the New Jersey Turnpike after his motorcycle broke down early Wednesday morning.
A preliminary investigation by State Police determined that Thomas Snow, 52, of Pownal, Vermont, was moving his Harley-Davidson motorcycle from the left shoulder to the right shoulder of the northbound outer (car and truck) lanes around 1:30 a.m. when he was struck by a tractor trailer in the right lane.
The crash happened before Exit 7A for Route 195, according to spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn.
Flynn said that Snow was pronounced dead a few hours later. No charges have been filed. The name of the truck driver was not released.
The investigation closed the outer lanes between Exit 6 for the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Route 195 during the morning commute.
