Men are dumb.

When I say that, I’m not talking about stuff like building bridges or inventing new ways to launch potatoes over long distances: we’re actually really good at things like that.

What we’re dumb about is our interactions with women. We’re so dumb that some women probably think we’re playing some kind of five-dimensional chess in which we’re trying to lower the emotional bar so low that we get credit for things like “showing up” or “remembering her birthday give or take a few days.”

Let me disabuse you of this notion right now: we’re not playing five-dimensional chess. Or even regular chess. It’s more like we’re playing checkers and some of the checkers are Oreos, so we keep trying to eat them.

That’s what your dealing with ladies.

What compounds this stupidity is that pretty much all we think about is ways to impress you and make you like us. Think about how bad we are at that! After 10,000 years of human civilization, and billions of hours of contemplation on the subject, “honking the horn” is *still* one of our top-five strategies for getting your attention.

This week’s Speaking Millennial podcast tackles an attention-getting strategy even worse than that one: liking a girl’s old pictures on social media (especially when those pictures are at the beach).

Our guest, the barrel-voiced and clear-thinking Patrick Lavery, helps us analyze why a man would *ever* think it was a good idea to send the message “hey, I’m a super creep and have just spent the last half hour trying to find pictures of you with the least amount of clothes on!”

Is Patrick Lavery an American Hero?  He’d probably say “No”.  But, if the result of this podcast is just one woman who doesn’t have to wake up to an Instagram like that makes her want to throw up, then I think the answer is an emphatic yes.

Of course, like any Speaking Millennial, we have nine or ten thousand other topics that we run through with the speed and excitement of our governor at a Chinese buffet.  So, do yourself a favor and get off your crush’s insta and download Speaking Millennial right now!
