The Press of Atlantic City reports that 54-year-old Lorenzo Carter confessed Thursday to fatally shooting
then-26-year-old Everton Kelly of New York City and wounding another man as they sat in a parked car in Atlantic City on March 29, 1980.

Prosecutors say William John Sessoms, now 62, was the person wounded in the shooting and was Carter's intended target. He was scheduled to testify against Carter on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say Carter remained at-large from 1980 until his 2010 arrest in Brooklyn, N.Y. by a fugitive task force.
