Union County prosecutors say 25-year old Anthony Marsal, of Elizabeth, pleaded guilty Monday to death by auto. The charge stems from an October 2013 accident in Union Township that killed John Monteverde.

Authorities say Marsal was under the influence of alcohol when his car struck Monterverde's motorcycle.

Monteverde, who lived in Queens, was a 30-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department. He was headed to a firehouse on Staten Island when the accident occurred.

Marsal will be sentenced later this year. Once he completes his prison term, he will have to serve three years of supervised release.
