NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Prosecutors say a man was killed and a woman was wounded when shots rang out in New Jersey's largest city.

Newark police found the victims around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when they responded to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of South 6th Street. They say the pair were shot outside a home in the neighborhood, but further details on the incident were not disclosed.

A possible motive for the shooting has not been disclosed.

The two victims were taken to a hospital, where 44-year-old Eric Bryant, of Newark, was pronounced dead a short time later. The other victim, identified only a 45-year-old city woman, was hospitalized in stable condition.
