If – and that’s a big “if” – I ever go to any sporting event, I shed the jersey of the team for whom I’m rooting.

Who needs the aggravation of getting into a brawl with some rowdy fan from the opposing team?

And it can get a little nuts.

Once while at a pivotal game between the Giants and Cowboys at Giants Stadium – a game where there were more Dallas fans than Giant’s fans - a rowdy bunch from Bayonne kept hooting an hollering every time Dallas came up with the ball.

And they were bombed to boot!

So it was in my best interest to ignore them.

Unfortunately that wasn’t the case this past Sunday after the Jets win over New England, when a couple of rowdy fans got into it on the way out of MetLife Stadium.

A cowardly Jets fan took the term “smash mouth football” too literally.

The unidentified Gang Green goon punched a woman at Met Life stadium during a postgame skirmish on Sunday, a video posted on Deadspin.com shows.

The wild fight erupted near one of the exit gates following the intense overtime victory on a field goal.

The punk, wearing a Wayne Chrebet jersey and camouflage pants, clocked a slender blond woman square in the face before he was quickly separated from the fracas.

The 35-second clip shows no sign of security intervening.

But a Jets spokesman said: “We are aware of the situation and we do not tolerate that behavior. Parties involved were detained and this matter is now in the hands of the New Jersey State Police.”

A State Police official said Sunday night that the incident was under investigation, and no arrests had been made.

I’ve always been told: “never hit a woman!”

But looking at the video, this woman is coming at the Jets fan looking to punch him out first.

Does he not have a right to protect himself, or should he just have let the female Patriots’ fan clobber him?

No doubt he looks like a douche, but it takes two (or more) to brawl.

Also, have you ever gotten into a brawl at a sporting event and if so, how’d that go for you? Feel free to comment as you see fit below!
