TRENTON — Monday's thunderstorms arrived just in time for Monday's afternoon commute with gusty winds, heavy rain and vivid lightning.

According to meteorologist Dan Zarrow, the top wind gust was 59 mph in Cape May, with the heaviest amount of rain falling at the opposite end of the state in Wantage, where nearly 4 inches fell.

Several thousand lost power across the state but restoration was quick for most customers. An outage in Howell and another in Mansfield was repaired in the early morning hours of Tuesday, according to the respective JCP&L and PSE&G outage sites.
