NJ.com reports Jersey City's City Council approved a new noise law Wednesday night requiring those playing music outside to make sure it isn't "plainly audible" from 50 feet away during the day. That limit becomes 25 feet after 10 p.m.

Councilman Rich Boggiano says most noise complaints involve construction, bars and nightclubs.

City officials say state environmental officials never approved the old law, so it wasn't enforceable. They say the new ordinance has been approved in other municipalities.
