How do you save money at the Jersey Shore?

When my family and I go to to the shore, my wife is always trying to make it as inexpensive as possible. Sometimes we go early enough that they’re not charging to get on the beach yet. She is also big on bringing our own food, while I enjoy buying a slice on the boardwalk, so we always argue about that.

Of course, bringing your own chairs and umbrellas helps bring down the cost as well, but what other ways do you save money when going to the shore in New Jersey?
