That's a line from an old Carpenters' song. "Mommy, who are the Carpenters?" "And what's a greeting card?" But to continue the thought, "I just have one wish to make, a special one for you..." Here is my wish for you, New Jersey for this year:

For the here and now, the immediate future, may you have very little to shovel or be able to afford to pay the kid down the street to do it for you. (For those of you with snow blowers who actually enjoy cleaning off the sidewalk or driveway, wait over there in the corner with the others who are similarly endowed. You can compare equipment. We'll begin the self-help session in a few minutes).

To continue my wish list for all of you...may the government leave you with something after taxes and tolls this year, and does something that actually benefits you and your family.

If you are among the almost one in ten of us without a job, may you hear the words, "Congratulations, you are hired." And I hope it pays you a decent wage.

May you see at least one good movie this year that moves you or inspires or entertains you.

May the leaves fall on his property, not yours.

May that nail lying on the highway stay on the highway and not find your tire.

I hope you find many, many reasons to laugh this year.

And I hope you have already found or know real love. If you are still seeking it, I hope love finds you.

Have a very, very good year.
