Two people have been struck by a CSX freight train in Ewing.

Mayor Bert Steinmann says the victims, a man and a woman, were severely injured and one lost a leg in the Tuesday morning accident near the Parkway Avenue overpass.

Steinmann tells The Times of Trenton that the man had a gas mask filled with glue and other chemicals.

The mayor says the northbound train was reported to be traveling at 18 mph when it hit the two people.

The victims, who were not immediately identified, were taken to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
