Fall Marks Shoulder Season At Jersey Shore

The weather is great, the businesses are open and the crowds are gone. After Labor Day marks the start of the fall "second season" at the Jersey shore.

"Beach towns are looking to cash in on post-summer visitors" said Grace Hanlon, NJ Divison of Travel & Tourism executive director.

There is plenty to do, says Hanlon.

"The restaurants are open, the hotels have great prices, its a great time to visit."

She says this time of year, shore towns hold lots of festivals to draw visitors back to the beach.

"There is Chowderfest in LBI, seafood festivals in Seaside."

Hanlon says New Jersey's farms and wineries also hold events during the fall season.

"There are tons of farms where you can pick your own apples and pumpkins and a lot of wineries throughout the state hold fall wine tastings and events when the weather is cooler."

You can't forget about the shopping. "There are so many deals right now, post Labor Day sales are all over the place."

"Shoulder season" revenue is a big part of the state's overall tourism economy, with visitors up 14 percent last year.

"You can really make a whole day of it here in New Jersey in the fall and help the local economy" said Hanlon.
