The criminal case continues against the former New York City police officer accused of using a machete to kill his ex-girlfriend in Midland Park last year.

A Bergen County grand jury indicted Arthur Lomando, 44, of Centereach, New York, on eight counts of murder, witness tampering other counts for the October slaying of  Suzanne Bardzell, who police said was found dead in her driveway according to the Bergen Record.

Police said Lomando killed Bardzell as she pulled into her driveway using a machete with a 9-1/2-inch blade.

Lomando, an ex-NYPD officer, fled the scene and headed for New York City and jumped in front of a subway, officials said. His legs were severely injured and were amputated to save his life.

Bardzell had been a special education teacher in Teaneck and had been granted a restraining order against him three weeks before her death, The Record reported.

Lomando remains at the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $5 million bail.
