I had quite the rock n roll experience Sunday morning when I joined my good friend, radio “brutha,” and former colleague Tom Cunningham as he celebrated the 10th anniversary of “The Bruce Brunch,” which airs on our sister station 105.7 The Hawk.

The celebration took place at The River Rock in Brick. Not only was former E Street drummer Vinnie “Mad Dog” Lopez in attendance, but we were soon joined by current drummer Max Weinberg, who told stories of playing with Bruce, another tour that is happening soon, and the performance they gave at the Spectrum the night after John Lennon was assassinated (his words). He also talked about the time Paul McCartney joined the band on stage, and while he normally watches Bruce to keep up, this time he couldn’t take his eyes off of Paul and felt like Ringo in “A Hard Days Night”

Max’s favorite Bruce song to drum on is “Candy’s Room.” He says when the song starts out and it’s only him playing the drums, he feels for a second like it’s “Max Weinberg and the E Street Band” ;)

Max also mentioned, that in a recent poll of who’s the best drummer in the E Street Band, he came in 3rd behind his son Jay, and number 1 Vinnie.

In this spirit of the Little Drummer Boy, I ask, who’s your favorite drummer - not only of the E street Band but of all time? Comment below with your answer.
